Our colleagues in New York have decided to unionize.
They're unionizing because they believe that, together, we can shape a better workplace for everybody at BM.
They deserve our admiration and our solidarity.
In the US, the right to unionize is not easily granted like in France or Spain.
Our US colleagues had to do an incredible job to set the foundations for a union there.
Your support matters to them more than you might think.
Why is it important?
It is only through collective actions that we can ensure our voices are heard.
In France and Spain, the right to unionize is enshrined in the law, and it only depends on our own will to organize.
But it was not always the case in the past. And today it is still not the case for our colleagues in the US.
Today, in NY, our colleagues have officially presented the company with a request to voluntarily recognise them as a union.
What does this mean?
Despite having collected the evidence that they have reached a full majority in the NY office, meaning that nearly 80% of eligible workers are supporting this union, the company is still not obliged to recognise them.
This is frustrating, and unfair, but we are sure that BM will do the right thing, and they will recognise the union of our colleagues in NY promptly.
By doing this BM not only has the occasion to grant them the same rights that we have in France and Spain,
but they can also set an example for other tech companies in the US.
In this letter we officially state our full support as unions for our colleagues in NY,
and we are asking you to do the same by sharing this news, and calling on the company to voluntarily recognize their union
We are waiting for BM's decision, hopeful that this will go into the right direction and come with no delay.
A word to our colleagues in NY: we are proud of you!
We know this is only the beginning of a long journey, but we are looking forward to seeing the future of your union, and to working together for a better workplace, and a more sustainable world!
And to you, dear Back Makers in Europe, we hope our American colleagues have inspired you!
